Refined By Fire

This has a more literal meaning as of late. On Sunday, I had some candles lit in my room and left for just a minute. When I returned, the middle section of my curtains was in flames. I know....the classic story. As I was trying to put it out, I burned my left wrist. I ran to the kitchen to get some water to throw on the fire while calling our doctor about my burn. The water put out the fire and I didn't damage too much in the process. I am left with two small third degree burns on my left wrist. It was quite a scary experience. I am SO thankful for SO many reasons: the fire and damage could have been a lot worse, my burn could have been a lot worse, Dr. Tyler and his family had just arrived back in Uganda on Friday - I'm so thankful they were here to help!

My wrist is in the process of healing - we'll know more of the permanent scarring in about two weeks. I feel like besides my physical injury, my heart has been "under fire" recently too. I know God is using everything to refine me to be more like His Son, but these past few days have been more challenging. If you think of it, please pray that I would rest in God's truth alone and that I would stand strong against the attacks of the evil one. I really appreciate your support and prayers!

With all that's been going on, I have found comfort in these words from C.S. Lewis, "God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains; it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world." Lord, please give me ears to hear what you are saying to me.

Andrea, what a scary experience. Glad to see you are doing OK. You never cease to amaze me and on top of everything else with your talents, you can now be considered a fire fighter/multi tasker. My best and know we are thinking of you. Uncle Rog
