Wakiso Sports Competition

On Friday, Rafiki took part in a sports competition. We competed in boys soccer and girls netball. We started walking to the fields with the kids around 8:30 am and arrived at 9 am. We were joined by over twenty schools from the Wakiso district. In typical Ugandan fashion, the first game began at 11:30 am. The first hour consisted of waiting for all of the teams to arrive. The second hour was spent measuring height and even weight of all the players to try to make sure the teams were fairly matched. We found it humorous that they charged an "organizational fee" to be a part of this competition when it was so disorganized (in our eyes) :).  The girls played and won their first netball game. They were so excited! The boys played their soccer game next. We loved seeing their hand-made soccer goals. They played really well and won their first game also. The girls should have won their second netball game but were robbed of it by the referee - much like the USA in the World Cup! The boys won their second soccer game but lost the third. As this was their first year competing in this competition, they were happy to have done so well! It was fun to experience a Ugandan sports day and support our Rafiki teams!!!

The Rafiki Netball Team
Tendo scored 9 of our 10 points!
The Rafiki Soccer Team
Joseph scored almost all of our goals! (Behind him you can see the hand-made goal).
